From Darwin we went to Kakadu National Park, which was just as I imagined it: a big green swamp with lots of aboriginal art on the rock formations. We also managed to see some jumping crocs and I can tell you it is pretty impressive to see the jaws of a 6 metre long shark open and close……… Going further down south we passed by Daly Waters – a little village (not even worthy of this name but ok) consisting of a few small houses, a tumbledown, and obviously long-closed general store, 2 petrol pumps unattached to any particular building beneath a sign saying ‘outback senso’ and a utilitarian pub with a tin roof where you will find every inch of interior surface covered with college ID cards, drivers’ licenses, money, bumper stickers, badges from various police and fire departments, underwear and t-shirts – and the Devils Marbles – enormous piles of smooth granite boulders, many as big as houses, stacked in jumbled piles or scattered over an immense area of 1800 hectares – before reaching Alice Springs.
